Kent Looking to Receive 8% of New Students Through Clearing
As A Level students up and down the country wait to hear their fate on Thursday, the University of Kent has released the numbers for how many clearing students they are hoping to accept. With the number of university applicants reaching new highs this year, universities across Britain are receiving a record number of applications. It is estimated that there are around 250,000 students that have applied through UCAS for courses starting in this academic year. read more

Kent Uni scores highly in Stonewall's guide to gay-friendly universities
In the coming weeks prospective students will be making final decisions on which university to go to and will be figuring out which university caters to their specific needs. To help make this decision a little easier for LGBT people gay charity Stonewall has today published a guide to universities gay-friendliness. Stonewall has chosen not to create a league table because many universities are making an effort to improve and that “gay-friendliness” means different things to different students. read more

Bloom Receives Honorary Degree From Kent
Hollywood film star, Orlando Bloom, has been awarded an honorary degree from the University of Kent. Bloom was amongst a number of famous faces who were being awarded their degrees at Canterbury Cathedral between 13 and 15 June. Other names include one of the country’s best known actors, David Suchet, Poet, Molly Mahood and Professor Sir Barry Cunliffe, Emeritus Professor of European Archaeology at the University of Oxford. read more

Kent Ranked 27th in the Country
The University of Kent has climbed 18 places in the Guardian’s University League Table to 27th, out of a total of 118 universities. The league table takes into account a range of criteria, from teaching quality, to final-year student satisfaction, to how much money is spent on each student, to what grades are required in order to gain a place at the university. Lastly, staff-student ratios and graduate job prospects are included in the rankings. read more

Balloons remind students to lock up
Police in Canterbury have joined forces with Kent Student Union as they launch their campaign to find new ways of preventing thefts by reminding students to lock all windows and doors when leaving their rooms. read more

Lynx to return to Britain?
A draft report by Scottish ecologists may recommend the reintroduction of the Eurasian lynx to areas of British countryside, potentially including Kent. A previous report by one of the ecologists behind the draft, Dr David Hetherington, indicates that the lynx did not die out in Britain through natural processes, but due to human activity. Under an EU directive, Britain is required to consider the reintroduction of previously native species. As such, we may soon have lynx, wolves, bears and others in our midst - if proven feasible. read more
