England Stun Egypt

wembley3.jpg

Tonight saw international football matches take place across the globe, with nations preparing for the World Cup getting some much needed tasters for things to come.

England faced Africans Egypt in a packed out Wembley Stadium. England were on the back foot early on, with Zidan putting the away side 1-0 up after 23 minutes. It took the home side until the 56th minutes to find some fluency – when Peter Crouch got the equaliser. The decisive third goal came with 15 minutes left of play – Shaun Wright-Phillip’s effort got past the Egyptian defence. The win was sealed for England in the 80th minute when Crouch got his second goal of the match.

Other results were as follows:

Scotland 1:0 Czech Republic

Wales 0:1 Sweden

France 0:2 Spain

Netherland 2:1 USA

Germany 0:1 Argentina

Albania 1:0 Northern Ireland

The win is a great morale boost for the English side and will have helped Capello decide which players to take to South Africa.

Comments

  • The title simply means England surprised Egypt when, after going behind, they came out in the second half and managed to score 3 goals; as well as up their game dramatically.
The result may not be "stunning", but the way in which it was achieved is.

  • England stun Egypt? Really?

I don't think England beating Egypt, at Wembley, three goals to one, would stun anyone. The most stunning point in the match was Egypt taking the lead, surely?

Super-sub Peter Crouch coming off the bench to rescue England from an embarrassing defeat has to be the lead here, with John Terry getting booed and jeered early on worthy of a mention. A routine win by a scoreline everybody expected doesn't seem like the line to go with.

  • You forgot to mention John Terry. You can't write an article about football without mentioning either John Terry or Wayne bridge; it is against the rules.
