Warnings issued after student dies from ‘diet pills’
Kent County Council (KCC) Trading Standards, police, and doctors have all issued warnings about the dangers of buying online diet pills after a student’s death. Online bought diet pills often contain an industrial chemical called DNP (2.4 Dinitrophenol), considered “not fit for human consumption”. On April 12, 21-year-old Eloise Aimee Parry died after taking diet pills containing DNP. Diet pills like these are often consumed by people trying to lose weight, and body-builders. UKC ranks highly again in the Complete University Guide 2016
The Complete University Guide 2016 has been released, and the University of Kent (UKC) has scored highly once again. For the second year running, UKC has ranked number 22 out of the 126 UK universities on the league table. Sussex beat Kent by just one point in its overall score, but Kent was placed one above King’s College London. Although Kent ranked 22 – based on its overall score of 811, UKC’s student satisfaction of 4.13 came close to Cambridge and Oxford’s student satisfaction scores of 4.18 and 4.17. Cannabis farms have risen dramatically in Kent
In recent years cannabis factories found in Kent homes has risen significantly. Home Office figures show that Kent police found over 300 cannabis farms in 2014, 200 more than those found in 2009. There were 316 cultivation of cannabis offences logged by Kent Police between August 2013 and 2014, but there were only 109 logged in 2009. The highest affected area was Medway at 59 cases, Swale and Thanet followed at 48 and 37 cases. Many of those arrested are in the country via human trafficking, said Anti-slavery campaigners.
