Bid for a bit of Woody’s
Do you miss Woody’s Bar? Do you fancy a piece of memorabilia for yours to keep? Well, the University of Kent is selling the Woody’s sign to raise funds for the Kent Opportunity Fund.
The university have also auctioned the letters W, o, d and s from the second Woody’s sign that will be auctioned individually. Since taking the letters off, the huge Woody’s sign is also being auctioned off without the letters.
The University of Kent Alumni Facebook page describe the signs as “Iconic and nostalgic.”
“[Woody’s] was a beacon to many students, both in Park Wood and all across campus” and the “vibrant atmosphere” that made Woody’s one of the most popular venues on campus.
They finish by saying that those that want a bit of Woody’s history need to be “in it to win it.”
The popular bar was demolished in August 2017, as part of new project to build a £3 million Park Wood Hub that would include a new convenience store, study and social spaces, and what Kent Union describe as a “bigger and improved Woody’s Bar”.
The auction began on Wednesday 25 April at 12.30, with bidding set to close on Monday 30 April at 12.00.
Any bids submitted after the Monday deadline will not be accepted.
The winning bids would then be donated to the Kent Opportunity Fund to support a broad range of scholarships, student projects to enhance extra-curricular activities at Kent, and bursaries to support students experiencing financial hardship.
Guide prices have been set at £40 for the full Woody’s sign, £30 for the big Woody’s sign with no letters and £20 for each individual letter of the second sign.
Bids can be submitted by commenting on the Facebook photo of the item, or by privately messaging the page.
