This Week’s New Music: Pirouette, ScHoolboy Q, Dornik

Did you know that Lady Gaga released a new album in November? She did, apparently it was called ARTPOP. Yeah, me neither. Here’s a list of songs that aren’t by Lady Gaga.

A track that was created for the new NBA Live 14′ game, you could expect it to include inspirational strings and a self-aggrandising title like ‘Man of the Year’. Many of the comments on the SoundCloud link include: ‘dat beat’ and ‘kill em’ (which I’m told mean that it is good). Hip-hop artist ScHoolboy Q is part of a group of West-Coast artists called Black Hippy, together with Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock. [Explicit]

With it’s combination of heartfelt lyrics and sugar-sweet vocals, this is not one to put on the playlist for pre-drinks with the lads. However, Kelsey Bulkin’s angelic voice over this soul-full, R&B beat may warm the heart of even the most stubborn alpha-male. The track is also available free for download, good times.

This song was released about a month ago. It is a remix of a David Bowie track by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, and (unsurprisingly) caused a proportionate hullabaloo in the music community. It’s so fantastic that we’ve taken the trouble of re-posting it for your listening pleasure.

If you’re not tired of that chic, 80′s inspired, Prince-esque electronica, then this track is for you! Despite the sarcasm, we do think this song is pretty excellent, the poppy intro could easily place it amongst the soundtrack for Drive, and vocals float and bubble over the track loosely enough to be reminiscent of Frank Ocean.
