Templeman Library to be open 24/7

The Templeman Library will be open 24/7, it was announced today

The Templeman Library on the Canterbury campus will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week as of November, it was announced today by VP Education of Kent Union, Jack Lay.

Following a successful trial period during the exam season of 2013/14, during which the library was open 24/7, it has been confirmed that this will now become a permanent change as of the 24th of November. This means that the Templeman Library will be open 24/7 during term time for the 2014/15 academic season.

Writing on his blog earlier today, Jack Lay said “Since I took office I have been working closely with the libraries to find a way to allow students to be able to study when they like and it’s great that they have agreed to this.”

The move, however, does not translate to the Medway campus and currently the Drill Hall library is not planned to be open 24/7 for the 2014/15 academic year. However, speaking to InQuire today Jack said “I will be continuing to campaign for a 24 hour library on the Medway campus, as well as longer opening hours for the summer time, in addition to my other manifesto points, like Exam Feedback and e-submissions across campus.”

The library will continue to be extended over the course of the academic year as part of the new library extension project, which includes a new lecture theatre, new seminar rooms and a new postgraduate study space.
