Local multi-arts festival suffers still birth
The inaugural Red List LIVE music will not be happening after all. Organizers have issued out a statement advising the public of the cancellation of the event that had been scheduled for 19-21 June at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park. ‘We are deeply saddened to announce that Red List LIVE have taken the tough decision to postpone our first festival until 2010.’
The statement further stated that ‘this is due to a number of factors, including the high risk of holding an event in the current economic climate, and the impact of increased capacity at established local festivals such as The Hop Farm.’
We took the decision at this early stage, before final acts were booked, full promotion began, and site work undertaken in order to protect Red List LIVE’s ability to host live events in the future. Red List LIVE still plans to hold a series of smaller events this summer, with some of the bands already booked, before returning as a festival next year as part of our five-year plan.’
All ticket holders have been fully refunded, and as a thank you for their support Rest List LIVE will invite them free of charge to one of their upcoming summer events. Several people got suspicious of the announcement which coincided with 1 April, a day notorious for public spoofs.
Red List LIVE was established to raise £100,000 in its first year for some of the world’s most at risk animals. Port Lympne Wild Animal Park and its host of endangered animals would have recieved some unusual mid-summer visitors this year as over 200 live acts were expected to perform at the inaugural Red List LIVE. Visual artists, poets and performers were set to join at the home of Kent’s most exotic inhabitants.
Kent – once a festival wasteland – has found itself hosting a variety of high quality events including Lounge on the Farm, the Sellindge Music Festival and there are big plans for an event at the Hop Farm at Paddock Wood.
