Tales of A Festival Goer: Sixty Seconds in the "Lovebox"
“Lovebox used to be called Sexpacket but it didn’t catch on…” British urban artist Example tweets on Friday afternoon. Imparting his “wisdom” regarding the 3 day music event ahead of his set that evening, Example joined a diverse mix of artists such as The Wombats, Roll Deep, Mighty Mouse, Architecture in Helsinki and up-and-coming singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran who took to the stage in London’s Victoria Park on the first day of the relatively-young summer festival.
Whilst currently not as prestigious or full-scale as the likes of Glastonbury, Lovebox boasts a hybrid of established and rising musical talent, an ideal city park location and at a reasonable day ticket price of just under £30. The festival was initiated in 2002 from a club night held by DJ set Groove Armada and in its 8 years has since gone on to host acts such as New York Dolls, Noah & the Whale, Bombay Bicycle Club, Hot Chip, Blondie, Super Furry Animals, Goldfrapp and The Flaming Lips.
Punk veterans, Blondie are returning to wrap-up proceedings this Sunday after an impressive weekend line-up of Katy B, Lykke Li, Robyn, Kelis, Scissor Sisters, The Drums and Beth Ditto. Noticeably absent from this weekend’s line-up is Brit-award winner Jessie J who was unfortunately inclined to pull out off all her festival appearances due to her broken leg.
