New Security Scare in Canterbury
Parts of the city centre were cordoned off this morning after another security alert in Canterbury. The alarm was raised at 9.15am when the appearance of a suspicious red suitcase was reported in Sun Street.
The police were called but they quickly established that the item was not dangerous. Inspector Steve Clark explained that the object turned out to be “simply an old suitcase that had been left out with the rubbish”. The area was reopened shortly after.
The incident follows more serious bomb scares, one at one of Canterbury’s train stations, during the summer.
