Single Review – Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong – Lonely Buoy

Earlier this afternoon I heard some rather disturbing news, on one of those silly music channel celebrity bullshit updates that, apparently, the spawn of Satan Peaches Geldof is dating Joe Lean, the lead singer of this rather dapper new outfit, Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong. On hearing this news I immediately wanted to vomit, but then ten minutes later I read the headline ‘Peaches Geldof jinging her jang in Joe Lean’s jong’ and then everything was alright again.

Things have got even better for me now, as I’ve finally heard JLatJJJ’S new single, which is a sub-three minute slice of Brit-pop brilliance and has consequently justified all the furious hype surrounding this rather splendid band. “I need to watch the sparks laid by the trains as they rattle on the deadbeat tracks” is undoubtedly fine lyricism, the chiming guitars recall Suede at their heyday, Lonely Buoy is a pop song perfect for pitch and tone, and is one of the best singles of 2008.

  • “Joe Lean Jinging Geldof Jr’s Jang” would have been a better headline and this band are yet another example of major label cash being thrown at inoffensive drivel.

I especially dislike the fat one. I bet he’s the bassist.

  • Although stating it is one of the best singles of 2008 is fairly bold, I have to agree on the most part that this is a great gift to Brit Pop, and is severely overdue.
