The Ballroom Hosts Tuesday Bluesday

Tuesday nights in Canterbury are not renowned for being the biggest night of the week.

However, with the launch of Vodka Asylum at Club Chemistry as well as the growing Drum ‘n’ Bass night at Alberry’s and the regular Ruby Tuesdays at Origins, it seems Tuesdays could be the new Fridays.

These venues all hold entertaining events, but if something different is what you are looking for I suggest The Ballroom.

A listed 18th century building buried among the back streets of Canterbury hosts Tuesday Bluesday, a unique evening devoted to the music of Blues.

This hidden gem oozes an atmosphere of art and luxury with its voluptuous velvet seating and quirky decorations, including unusual pieces of artwork and an entire wall covered with various ornate mirrors.

Yet even with this atmosphere, The Ballroom does not portray any sense of pretence whatsoever – one of the most attractive factors in my opinion.

On a Tuesday night the main clientele you can expect is a trendy student crowd, you won’t be finding any rowdy sports teams in here.

Instead, anticipate music lovers who have most probably heard about Tuesday Bluesday via word of mouth. The music itself is incredible and will sell the night on its own; incredibly talented performers take to the stage who guarantee the customers a fun and lively evening.

Whilst the free entry is a bonus to the student pocket, the drink prices are not as cocktails are priced at around six or seven pound with no deals on offer. The Ballroom manages to charm itself out of their pricey alcohol with friendly staff.

Nevertheless, The Ballroom is undoubtedly a relaxed and unique venue exhibiting fantastic Blues music worth visiting.
