Paralympians to use University of Kent facilities

Sports facilities in Canterbury, including at the University of Kent, have been recommended for athletes training for the 2012 Paralympics.

UoK’s very own sports centre, which caters for more than 30 different sports, and has its own fitness suite and cardio theatre, tennis/ netball courts and dance studio, has been highlighted as one of the very best sports hubs in Canterbury for top athletes to train.

This has been welcomed by Canterbury City Council, whose spokesman, Steve James, has said that it was ‘fantastic news and offers a wonderful opportunity.’

Cabinet member for community services, Mike Hill touted it as ‘excellent news’ and stated that ‘International visiting athletes will help promote Kent to the world and bring economic benefit to the area.’

  • Kent were one of the first Counties to get their details into the brochure, which will go to every nation competing in the 2008 Olympics, so they can have a look at our facilities.

I think we will be one of the favourite sports sites as UoK is a mini olympic village in its own right. With a cinema, club, shops, washing facilities and pubs, not to mention the sports facilities AND being so close to the port into the continent will really help.
